Potamia Fruit Breeding
Meyve Ar-Ge San. Tic. Ltd. Şti.
Our company ‘’Potamia Fruit Breeding R&D’’, which started its activities in July 2019, in partnership with Prof. Yasemin Evrenosoğlu and Ödemiş Bademli Nursery and Agricultural Development Cooperative, is working on new fruit and rootstock breeding area at Anadolu Technology Research Park, Eskişehir, Türkiye.
Who are we?
Vision
The newly obtained varieties and rootstocks should be resistant to changing climatic conditions, diseases, pests and different soil conditions, thus minimizing the use of agricultural inputs such as pesticides and fertilizers, and supporting human health with these aspects, while also containing compounds beneficial to health and meeting changing consumer and market demands, and having superior fruit quality characteristics become extremely important in terms of fruit breeding. It is important to contribute to increasing both the country's and the world's trade volume by obtaining new varieties that can move agriculture forward in a short time. Obtaining these new varieties described above is the main aim of the company.
Mission
*Obtaining new fruit varieties resistant to pest and diseases
*Obtaining new rootstocks adaptated to changing climate conditions and training systems
*Obtaining new cultivars that meet changing consumer demands.

Identification of Commercial Pear Variety Candidates Resistant to Fire Blight Disease and Pear Psylla
Identification of Commercial Pear Variety Candidates Resistant to Fire Blight Disease and Pear Psylla
The aim of this project is to have new pear varieties that resistant to fire blight disease (caused by Erwinia amylovora bacteria) and pear psylla pest (caused by Cacopsylla pyri insect) that are the most important disease and pest of pear species.

Fire Blight Resistant Pear Rootstock Breeding
Fire Blight Resistant Pear Rootstock Breeding
Pear is among the important fruit species for our country, and its cultivation was restricted after the fire blight disease caused by the bacterium Erwinia amylovora entered Turkey in 1985. There is no effective management against this disease with known methods. It is known that the most effective method is the use of disease-resistant varieties and rootstocks.
In this project planned for this purpose, genotypes that have passed the pre-selection stage in terms of resistance to fire blight disease were studied. Genotypes were evaluated in terms of their ability to be used as rootstocks.
At the end of this Project, 30 fire blight resistant genotypes selected as rootstock candidates, and their evoluation is almost completed. Some of the candidates are being propagated in vitro, and some of them were grafted with popular pear cultivars.

Breeding of Late Ripening Japanese Plum Types with Red Fruit Flesh and Skin Color by Crossbreeding
Breeding of Late Ripening Japanese Plum Types with Red Fruit Flesh and Skin Color by Crossbreeding
Consumer demands in the fruit market are constantly changing. Changes in climate factors due to global climate change also affect agricultural production and make it unsustainable and economical. The breeding of varieties that meet all these demands and changes is becoming extremely important. Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to develop genotypes that will meet the demands of producers and consumers in plum species. The goal of the project is to obtain new genotypes with dark colored fruit flesh and skin, high attractiveness and eating quality, and late flowering and late harvest. Besides, these new plum varieties will support human healt with high contents of anthocyanins and antioxidants. We obtained more than a thousand candidate hybrids in this project and they are growing fastly in field conditions.
